Fix this paragraph, and editing by hand

Rewrite one section from a note for 5 credits, or change the words yourself, without touching the rest.

Most drafts need one change, not a rewrite. In the editor, each section has a Fix this button: say what is wrong with that section and it is written again from the same sources, with its citations intact, while every other section stays exactly as it was. It uses 5 credits. Or change the words yourself: the editor is a plain text editor, and every save is a version you can go back to.

Fix one section

  1. Open the article and press Edit, which switches between reading and editing the text.
  2. Find the section and press "Fix this section".
  3. Say what is wrong: "Too long", "Misses the point", "Wrong tone", "Says the same thing twice". A sentence is enough.
  4. Press Fix. The section is rewritten and saved as a new version. The rest of the article does not move.

The rewritten section keeps the sources the original cited and is held to the same length and to the rule that every claim cites a passage. If it needs a claim the sources cannot support, it will not make it.

Edit by hand

Click into the text and type. Cited sentences are marked; hover one to see "Cited claim — show source", and click to read the passage it rests on. If you change a cited sentence so that it no longer says what the passage says, the claim loses its source and shows under the coverage meter as uncited. You can still approve, with "Approve without a source for every claim", if you are sure of it.

Saving makes a version. The article's Version history lists every one, numbered and dated, with how much of it is cited, including the version the pipeline produced.

What cannot be fixed on its own

  • A part inside a larger section, such as one item of a list, cannot be fixed alone. Use "Fix this section" on the section it belongs to, or edit the text.
  • A section you have changed by hand in a way that breaks its structure cannot be fixed on its own. Edit the text instead.

If it goes wrong

  • "This draft changed while you were editing": someone else saved the article, or a fix finished, while you had it open. Reload to see the latest version; your typed changes are not saved over theirs.
  • The fix made the section worse: say more precisely what was wrong and fix it again, or edit the words by hand. Each fix is 5 credits.
  • You cannot see Edit: a viewer reads but does not edit. Ask an owner to make you an editor.
